In the fall of 2020, the community of Robinsonville, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent and untimely death of 18-year-old Trevon Bell. On October 12, 2020, the young man was shot and killed at the Kirby Estates Apartments, an event that highlighted the persistent issue of gun violence in the area. Bell was a male resident of Robinsonville. The incident prompted an immediate and thorough investigation by local law enforcement, who were determined to bring justice for Trevon and his family.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to 26-year-old Quinterrance Vardaman, a resident of nearby Tunica, Mississippi. Five months after Bell's death, in March 2021, Vardaman was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the shooting. The legal proceedings that followed would slowly unravel the events that led to the tragic loss of a young life, leaving a profound impact on the local community.
In a significant development in the case, Quinterrance Vardaman pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter. On June 24, 2024, he was sentenced to 20 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections for his role in Trevon Bell's death. While this brought a degree of closure to the case, Vardaman's legal troubles were far from over. He remains in custody and is also a suspect in the first-degree murder of 35-year-old Jimmy Dotson, who was killed on July 3, 2023. Although formal charges in the Dotson case have not yet been filed against Vardaman, the investigation is ongoing with additional arrests having been made in connection to that case.
