On the night of Friday, November 10, 2023, in Robinsonville, Mississippi, the life of 24-year-old Deshun Montarrio Isabell, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a brutal act of violence. Isabell, along with two companions, Steven Dewayne Burts, 23, and Tednequa Tenice Moore, 25, were discovered in a vehicle that had veered off Casino Center Drive and struck a pole. The initial report to the Tunica County Sheriff's Office at approximately 9:24 p.m.
suggested a car fire, but upon arrival, deputies uncovered a far more sinister scene. The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes, indicating that the occupants had been shot prior to the crash.
The investigation into the triple homicide quickly gained momentum. The Tunica County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, began to piece together the events of that fatal night. All three victims were transported to the Mississippi Crime Lab for autopsies to officially determine the cause of death. The community was left shaken by the violent incident, and law enforcement officials urged anyone with information to come forward.
Within weeks, a breakthrough was made in the case. On November 22, 2023, the Tunica County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 18-year-old Deonte Carnell Taylor of Tunica. Taylor was charged with three counts of capital murder, four counts of shooting into a motor vehicle, and four counts of conspiracy to commit a crime. He was held without bond. The investigation did not stop there. On April 12, 2024, a second suspect, 20-year-old Anthony Carter Jr., also known as 'A.J.,' was arrested. Carter faced a litany of charges, including four counts of capital murder, encompassing the deaths of Isabell, Burts, Moore, and Moore's unborn child. He was also charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, drive-by shooting, and shooting into a motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed that Carter had allegedly been involved in separate drive-by shootings targeting both Burts and Isabell in the months leading up to the fatal incident. At the time of his arrest for the homicides, Carter was already in custody for a separate attempted murder case. The investigation remains active, with the possibility of more arrests.
