In what was a tragic end to a volatile relationship, 54-year-old Dazzie Peters was found deceased in her McComb, Mississippi, home on March 1, 2018. A Black female, Peters was discovered alongside her 65-year-old boyfriend, Mike Seay. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head in what law enforcement determined to be a murder-suicide.

Authorities reported that Peters had been attempting to end her relationship with Seay. This desire to part ways seemingly escalated tensions, culminating in Seay's two arrests for harassment and causing disturbances in the week prior to the murder-suicide. In an effort to protect herself, Peters had secured a no-contact order against Seay.
Despite the legal measures taken by Peters, the situation reached a devastating climax. On the day of their deaths, Seay reportedly confronted Peters at a convenience store. Following this encounter, Peters went back to her residence, tragically unaware that Seay had already forcibly entered her home. The deadly confrontation that ensued was signaled by the sound of multiple gunshots, which were heard by neighbors.
Upon their arrival, Pike County Sheriff's deputies found both Peters and Seay deceased inside the home. The investigation concluded that Seay had shot Peters before turning the gun on himself, with his wound appearing to be self-inflicted.
