In the late hours of a Sunday in May 2020, the community of McComb, Mississippi, was shattered by a violent act that claimed the life of Laquasha B. Martin, a 32-year-old female. When McComb police responded to reports of a shooting on Old Liberty Road, they were guided by a witness to a grim discovery. There, they found Charles Martin, 32, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The tragedy deepened when, in close proximity, officers located the body of Laquasha Martin.
The investigation into the double shooting moved swiftly. Within a matter of hours, law enforcement had identified a suspect, a local teenager named Tucker Morris, who was just 16 years old at the time of the incident. Morris was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder in connection with the shootings. The motive for the attack and the nature of the relationship between Morris and the two victims were not immediately made public, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and senseless violence that had unfolded in their midst.
The legal proceedings against Tucker Morris culminated in December 2022. As a result of his plea, he was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison, with six of those years suspended. He is expected to serve a total of 14 years behind bars for his role in the shooting that left one person seriously injured and ended the life of Laquasha B. Martin.
