In a quiet community near Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a grim discovery was made on the afternoon of March 7, 2018. Virgil Maury, a 56-year-old male, was found deceased in his home on Maxwell Drive in the Glendale area. Alongside him was his wife, 53-year-old Oleta Maury. The Forrest County Sheriff's Department was alerted to the scene at approximately 2 p.m.
Upon entering the residence, authorities found both Virgil and Oleta Maury had sustained gunshot wounds.
Their bodies were subsequently sent to the state crime lab in Jackson for autopsies to determine the precise cause of death. The initial investigation by the Forrest County Sheriff's Department pointed towards the incident being domestic in nature.
Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem, who identified the couple, also indicated that the circumstances of their deaths appeared to be the result of a domestic situation. A spokesperson for the sheriff's department stated that while they were awaiting final details from the crime lab, they were not actively seeking any suspects in connection with the deaths. The authorities believed the tragic event was contained within the home and stemmed from a domestic dispute, with no indication of outside involvement. Consequently, no arrests were made in the case.
