Scielar Dupree McKenzie, a 19-year-old male, tragically lost his life on May 25, 2018, in a shooting that occurred in front of his cousin's home on Miller Street in Jackson, Alabama. The quiet community was disturbed by the sound of gunshots, which some residents initially mistook for fireworks. McKenzie, known affectionately as 'Skii Koon,' was a resident of Gautier, Mississippi, and was employed at a Waffle House.
He was a father and was known for his friendly and outgoing nature, enjoying time spent with his children and family.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to the identification of suspects. Two individuals were apprehended shortly after the incident. Kyle Webb was charged with murder, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. A second suspect, Zavier Williams, was charged with receiving stolen property. A third man, Devarian Edwards, was also identified in connection with the crime but managed to evade immediate capture. Authorities considered him to be armed and dangerous and issued an all-points bulletin for his arrest in both Mississippi and Alabama. The violent death of the young father left his family, including his mother Melissa Jackson, devastated as they began the difficult process of seeking justice.
