In the late summer of 2018, the life of a young woman, Jasmine Nicole Adams, a 25-year-old female, was tragically cut short in her Vicksburg, Mississippi home. On August 22, police responded to a report of a home invasion in the 300 block of Lakehill Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Ms. Adams deceased from a gunshot wound to the head. Inside the home at the time of the incident were her children, who were fortunately unharmed.
The initial investigation into what appeared to be a home
invasion would eventually lead authorities to suspect someone known to Ms. Adams. In November 2019, the Vicksburg Police Department arrested Carlos Harris, who was identified as her live-in boyfriend at the time of her death. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. The case against Harris progressed, and after the presentation of additional information to a grand jury, he was officially indicted in September 2023. Along with the murder charge, Harris also faced a charge of Possession of a Weapon after a felony conviction.
Following the indictment, the legal proceedings moved forward. A trial was scheduled for Carlos Harris, with the date set for the court term beginning on November 18, 2024. The prosecution of the case was assigned to an Assistant District Attorney. If convicted of the murder of Jasmine Adams, Harris faces the possibility of a life sentence in prison. The prolonged investigation, spanning several years, was ultimately closed by the Cold Case Division of the Vicksburg Police Department, bringing a measure of progress in a case that began with a distressing report of a home invasion and evolved into an accusation against the victim's own partner.
