In Leland, Mississippi, on the morning of September 20, 2018, 39-year-old Kimberly Renee Johnson was tragically killed in a violent encounter. Authorities were summoned to the 100 block of McGee Street around 11:30 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, police officers discovered Johnson suffering from several gunshot wounds.
The incident prompted an immediate investigation, which quickly pointed to her 46-year-old boyfriend, Corey Jimerson, as the primary suspect.
Following the shooting, Jimerson had fled the scene, sparking a search by law enforcement. His attempt to evade capture was short-lived, as he was later located and apprehended in the nearby city of Greenville by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
Following his arrest, Corey Jimerson was booked on one count of murder for the shooting death of his girlfriend. He was subsequently held at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility. According to the Leland Assistant Police Chief, Marcus Davis, the shooting was the culmination of a history of domestic disputes, as police had been called to the residence on previous occasions for incidents involving the couple.
