In the early morning hours of October 28, 2018, a dispute at a nightclub in McComb, Mississippi, ended in the tragic death of 35-year-old Erick Kintae Earls of Gloster. The male victim was fatally shot outside The Ice House and Upper Deck Sports Bar. Friends and family remembered Earls as a humble and kind man with a ready smile, who loved to cook and would offer help to anyone in need.
Following the shooting, the McComb Police Department identified 22-year-old Bruce Everett Varnado of
Tylertown as the suspect. An investigation into the incident suggested that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Varnado and Earls. A warrant for murder was issued for Varnado's arrest, and law enforcement began a search for him.
The manhunt for Bruce Varnado concluded on a Friday night in January 2019. After receiving a tip, McComb police located Varnado. He attempted to flee, leading officers on a brief chase before being apprehended as he tried to escape into a wooded area behind a house. Varnado was subsequently charged with the murder of Erick Earls.
