In the late autumn of 2022, the life of 29-year-old Cedric O’Neil Carter Jr. of McComb, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. On November 10th, Carter was shot in an act of violence that would ultimately prove fatal. He succumbed to his injuries eighteen days later, on November 28, 2022, at the University Medical Center in Jackson.

Remembered as a free spirit, Cedric, who was also known as 'NBA Carter,' was born on January 24, 1993. He was a father to a son and a daughter and was cherished by a large family, including his father, three sisters, and two brothers. Those who knew him recalled his love for spending time with family and friends and his ability to have a good time.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the McComb Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to a suspect. On the same day that Cedric was shot, authorities arrested 44-year-old Christopher Donnell Wilkinson, also a resident of McComb.

Wilkinson was taken into custody and faced serious charges for his alleged involvement in the incident. He was charged with murder and weapon possession by a convicted felon. Following his arrest, he was incarcerated at the Pike County Jail, with his bond set at a substantial $750,000 as he awaited further legal proceedings.
