In the quiet town of McComb, Mississippi, the life of 20-year-old Cody 'Bear' Doyle Gallagher was tragically cut short on the evening of January 3, 2024. A male, Cody was at his home on Earl Street with his mother when three men reportedly entered the residence. In a horrifying turn of events, his mother was held at gunpoint while Cody was shot multiple times.
He was rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Throughout his young life, Cody had faced numerous health challenges with courage, having undergone multiple open-heart surgeries and other medical procedures due to a congenital heart defect. Those who knew him remembered his love for his family, particularly his close bond with his mother. He found joy in gaming, music, and creating his own freestyle lyrics. His passing came just a year after the death of his father.
In the wake of the shooting, McComb police began searching for three Black male suspects who fled the scene. At the time of the initial reports, a motive for the attack had not been established, and descriptions of the suspects or any vehicle they may have used were not available. The investigation into Cody Gallagher's death is ongoing, and as of the immediate aftermath, the three suspects remained at large. Due to the ongoing investigation and his mother's declining health, funeral services were postponed.
