On a Saturday night, 18-year-old Joshua Bullock was standing at the corner of Beech and Sedgewick streets in McComb, Mississippi, just a block from the city's police station. Gunfire suddenly erupted, striking Bullock multiple times. The shooting, which also resulted in a 15-year-old being grazed by a bullet, ended Bullock's life. He was rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on January 13, 2024.
The second teenager involved did not sustain serious injuries and did not require medical treatment.
In the days following the shooting, the McComb Police Department began an investigation. Initially, no suspects were identified. However, their efforts led to a significant development nearly two weeks after the incident. On a Thursday, law enforcement arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the fatal shooting.
The suspect was identified as Jaylen Patterson. He has since been charged with the murder of Joshua Bullock. Following his arrest, Patterson was held on a $1 million bond. The case represented the second fatal shooting in the city of McComb within a short period that January.
