On a Sunday evening in Jackson, Mississippi, the life of 39-year-old Rastafian Beasley was tragically cut short. On December 2, 2018, officers from the Jackson Police Department responded to a call on Fontaine Avenue just after 5:00 PM. There, they discovered Beasley, a Black male, who had been shot multiple times.
At the scene, alongside Beasley, authorities found another man who was also injured. This individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was considered a person of interest in the shooting. The investigation into the homicide led police to identify 29-year-old Dominique Griffin as the primary suspect. Griffin was subsequently arrested and formally charged with murder in connection with Rastafian Beasley's death.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public as the case proceeded through the legal system. The community sought justice for Beasley, a man whose life was violently taken. In a later development, Dominique Griffin, the man accused of Beasley's murder, died following an assault at the Raymond Detention Center.
