In the late hours of a Sunday in March 2020, a gathering of firefighters in Flora, Mississippi, set the stage for a tragic turn of events that would end in the death of a respected Jackson Fire Lieutenant. Yancey Williams, a 36-year-old male, had been at the event, where he had recently connected with a man named Terrance Watts, discovering they were cousins.
After the gathering, Williams and Watts left together in Williams' vehicle, making a stop at a Marathon gas station.
It was there that an argument broke out between the two relatives. The verbal dispute escalated with shocking swiftness, culminating in Watts fatally shooting Williams with a semi-automatic handgun. In the immediate aftermath, Watts fled the scene, taking Williams' vehicle with him.
