In the quiet community of Clinton, Mississippi, a domestic disturbance call on February 16, 2019, spiraled into a harrowing 12-hour hostage standoff that left five people dead, including 65-year-old Cho Thi Van. The tragic events unfolded at a residence on Foxhill Drive, where Nam Quang Le, 34, had taken multiple people hostage.
When Clinton police initially responded to the call, they were met with gunfire from Le, who then barricaded himself inside the home with the hostages. As the hours stretched on, a SWAT team was called to the scene. During the lengthy standoff, Le's two young children were released from the home unharmed.
The standoff concluded when law enforcement entered the residence. Inside, they discovered a tragic scene. Cho Thi Van, who was a family friend and babysitter, was found shot to death, along with three other victims: Lan Thi My Van, 30, who was the suspect's wife; Le Thi My Van, 28, his sister-in-law; and Dr. Phung Minh Le, 28, a doctor who was engaged to Le Thi My Van. All four victims had been shot multiple times.
The suspect, Nam Quang Le, was also found with a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was brought in to investigate the entirety of the incident, including the circumstances of Le's death. The motive for the violent episode is believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute. The tragic event left the local community in shock and mourning for the lives lost.
