In the winter of 2019, the life of a young man with a promising future was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. Erik Payton, a 24-year-old male, was discovered deceased on February 20, 2019, inside an apartment, the victim of gun violence. A former student at Jackson State University, he had dedicated himself to a career in law enforcement, serving as a correctional officer with the Rankin County Correction Facility.
