In the early morning hours of April 20, 2019, in Meridian, Mississippi, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Gracie Moss Lebron, a Black female. The altercation occurred at a residence on Old Homestead Road in Lauderdale County, where Lebron resided with Gregory Freeman. Around 7:20 a.m., the argument turned violent, and Lebron sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Despite being rushed to a local emergency room, she succumbed to her injuries.
Following the shooting, the suspect, 36-year-old Gregory Freeman, fled the scene, heading north on Highway 45. The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department quickly identified Freeman as the perpetrator and alerted law enforcement agencies in the surrounding areas. Approximately two hours later, and about 130 miles north of Meridian, officers with the Shannon Police Department and deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Department apprehended Freeman. He was taken into custody and subsequently returned to Lauderdale County to face charges.
Freeman was charged with murder and motor vehicle theft, with his bond set at $510,000. The investigation was handled by the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department. In August 2020, a grand jury indicted Freeman for the murder of Gracie Moss Lebron. In April 2021, Gregory Freeman pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Following his guilty plea, he was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Bo Bailey. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Marvell Gordon, bringing a legal conclusion to the violent death of Gracie Moss Lebron.
