In the late spring of 2019, the life of 28-year-old Antonio Gipson, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in what police initially suspected was a home invasion. On the evening of May 30th, Gipson was found shot to death inside an apartment at the Desoto Apartments on Sutton Place in Horn Lake, Mississippi. He was not alone; 27-year-old Serena Madkins was also discovered deceased at the scene, having suffered the same fate.
A baby was found unharmed within the residence and was subsequently released to family members.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to identify three suspects: Marshon Cortez Diming, his brother Jamoni Diming, and James Jakes. The trio was later indicted by a DeSoto County grand jury on a host of serious charges, including conspiracy to commit armed robbery and the capital murders of both Gipson and Madkins. The indictment also included charges for the attempted murder of Artavis Pimpton and a minor who was present during the violent encounter.
The wheels of justice turned, and Marshon Cortez Diming was tried separately for his role in the brutal slayings. During his trial, it was revealed that Pimpton had been staying at Gipson's apartment. On the night of the murders, a knock at the door preceded the tragic events. The prosecution presented its case, and the jury found Marshon Diming guilty on all counts. He received two sentences of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the capital murder convictions, in addition to sentences for the conspiracy and attempted murder charges. His brother, Jamoni Diming, had turned himself in to the police shortly after the incident and was charged with felony conspiracy to commit a crime.
