On a tragic evening in Natchez, Mississippi, the life of 63-year-old George Oliver Prescott Jr. was brought to a sudden and violent end. On February 23, 2020, George and his wife, Cathy, were found deceased in their home, both having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The devastating events unfolded when their son, Colton Prescott, then 34, arrived at their residence to pick up his infant daughter.
An argument broke out between Colton and his parents, which tragically escalated to the point
of gunfire. Following the shooting, Colton fled the scene with his 9-month-old daughter, prompting a search by law enforcement. He was apprehended by Natchez police and Adams County Sheriff's deputies approximately 15 miles from his parents' home. His daughter was found with him, unharmed, and was safely returned to her mother.
Colton Prescott was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of his parents. Acquaintances reported that Colton's life had been on a downward spiral, suggesting that drug use and the accidental death of his 3-year-old son in 2016 were contributing factors to his troubled state. In September 2022, Colton Prescott was sentenced to 60 years in prison. He received a 30-year sentence for each count of second-degree murder, with the terms to be served consecutively.
