Emanuel Sturgill was a 32-year-old man from Jackson, Mississippi, whose life ended violently late on a Sunday night in the fall of 2020. On October 25 of that year, as the weekend wound down and most of the city settled in for the night, gunfire erupted along the 400 block of Idlewild Street, a largely residential stretch in Jackson. Neighbors heard the shot and, when police arrived just after 11:30 p.m., officers found Sturgill gravely wounded, the victim of a single gunshot.
