In the winter of 2021, the community of Meridian, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent death of a beloved resident. William Earl Brookins, a 60-year-old Black male, was found deceased in his home on Davis Street on the morning of Sunday, January 17th. He had been fatally shot sometime between the evening of Friday, January 15th, and the time his body was discovered. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Authorities were called to the residence for a welfare check after Mr.
Brookins had not been seen for a couple of days. Upon making a forced entry, officers found him unresponsive. The investigation that followed determined that he had sustained gunshot wounds. It is believed that Mr. Brookins may have known his attacker. An autopsy was ordered to be performed by the state crime lab to learn more about the circumstances surrounding his death.
