In the late summer of 2021, the community of Jackson, Mississippi, was struck by a tragedy that hit especially close to home for its emergency responders. On August 10th, Jeffrey Sutton II, the 15-year-old son of the city's fire chief, lost his life. The young man, a student at Smilow Prep, was fatally wounded in a shooting incident. Initial reports from authorities indicated that the shooting was being investigated as an accidental death.
