In the winter of 2021, a young man's life was cut short in Yazoo County, Mississippi, following a shooting that occurred weeks prior. Cornelius Johnson, a 19-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries on December 29, 2021, after being shot on November 19. The initial incident took place inside a car on Martin Luther King Drive, leaving Johnson and another individual hospitalized.
Following the shooting, authorities arrested 24-year-old William Perry.
He was initially charged with two counts of aggravated assault. However, with Johnson's passing weeks after the incident, Perry's charges were upgraded. He confessed to the shooting, according to the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy.
The charge against William Perry was changed to murder in addition to one count of aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility. The events that transpired inside the vehicle leading to the shooting have not been detailed.
