On a late spring morning in Gulfport, Mississippi, the life of 18-year-old Tyrese Yarbor was tragically cut short. On June 3, 2022, Yarbor, a male resident of Gulfport, was shot multiple times in the 5000 block of Old Pass Road. The incident occurred around 10:42 a.m., and despite the immediate response of emergency services, Yarbor was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Gulfport Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting, which was spurred by a verbal
altercation. Their efforts led to the swift apprehension of two teenage suspects later that same day. Dwayne Stewart Jr., who was 16 years old at the time, was identified as the alleged shooter and faced a charge of first-degree murder. A second 16-year-old, Chrishide Devonte Jordan, was also taken into custody and charged with accessory after the fact.
Following their arrests, both teenagers were held without bond. The authorities reported that the shooting had followed a verbal dispute between the suspects and Tyrese Yarbor, after which the two teenagers fled the scene before being located and arrested by law enforcement. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life taken too soon, as the legal process against the two accused teenagers began to unfold.
