On May 6, 2024, at approximately 1:21 a.m., Gulfport Police responded to a shooting at the InTown Suites hotel on Highway 49 in Gulfport, Mississippi. Upon arrival, officers discovered 40-year-old Charles Martel Oatis deceased from a single gunshot wound. Investigations revealed that an argument had ensued between Oatis and 32-year-old Antwon Duane Williams, during which Williams allegedly produced a firearm and shot Oatis.
