In the late evening of September 13, 2020, the body of 27-year-old Mason Mantrell Deunta McCormick, a Black male, was discovered face down in Todd Alley within the Gaston Point community of Gulfport, Mississippi. Investigators from the Gulfport Police Department determined that he had died from gunshot wounds. The scene, which unnerved neighbors and first responders, lacked a blood trail, leading authorities to believe McCormick had been killed elsewhere and his body left in the alley.
Described by loved ones as kindhearted and loyal, Mason had reportedly been with people he knew earlier on the day he was killed. As the investigation unfolded, it emerged that some individuals might be withholding crucial information, complicating the path to justice. Despite the passage of time, the case remains an open and active homicide investigation.
More than five years after his death, McCormick's family and friends are still searching for answers. The Gulfport Police Department continues to urge anyone with information to come forward. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting.
