In the late evening of September 13, 2020, the body of 27-year-old Mason Mantrell Deunta McCormick, a Black male, was discovered face down in Todd Alley within the Gaston Point community of Gulfport, Mississippi. Investigators from the Gulfport Police Department determined that he had died from gunshot wounds. The scene, which unnerved neighbors and first responders, lacked a blood trail, leading authorities to believe McCormick had been killed elsewhere and his body left in the alley.
