In the summer of 1986, a horrific act of violence shattered the peace of Edmond, Oklahoma, claiming the life of Thomas Wade Shader Jr. and thirteen of his colleagues. On the morning of August 20, Shader, a 31-year-old man, went to his job at the Edmond Post Office, unaware of the tragedy that was about to unfold. The perpetrator was a part-time letter carrier who had a history of erratic behavior and had been reprimanded by his supervisors.
