In the summer of 2014, a police chase through the streets of Oklahoma City brought a dramatic and fatal end to the life of 43-year-old Roc Eugene LaRue. The events unfolded on June 9th, when LaRue, a male, allegedly stole a vehicle, drawing the attention of law enforcement. What followed was a pursuit, described not as a high-speed chase, but as a lengthy, low-speed procession through the city.
The chase concluded when LaRue pulled the vehicle over.
At this point, the situation escalated. According to reports, LaRue emerged from the car and brandished a knife. Officers on the scene initially attempted to subdue him using less-lethal methods. Both a taser and bean bag rounds were deployed in an effort to disarm him, but these measures proved ineffective.
With non-lethal attempts failing to resolve the standoff, the encounter reached its tragic climax. In response to the perceived threat, officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department discharged their firearms. LaRue was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene. The official cause of his death was the result of the police shooting. No arrests of any other suspects were reported in connection with the incident.
