In the small community near Mcalester, Oklahoma, a night of youthful camaraderie turned into a tragedy that would forever alter the lives of two families. Twelve-year-old Justin Ingle, a boy known for his love of skateboarding and making people laugh, was at a sleepover with his best friend on a Friday night in August 2014. The boys were engaged in what authorities would later describe as 'horseplay,' a series of events that would have a devastating conclusion.
During the sleepover, a
high-velocity pellet gun was handled, a firearm the sheriff noted was significantly more powerful than a standard BB gun. Believing the weapon to be unloaded, Justin's friend pointed it in his direction. From a short distance away, the gun was fired, and a pellet struck Justin in the head. The seemingly innocent play between friends instantly transformed into a life-or-death situation.
Justin was rushed to a hospital in Tulsa, where he succumbed to the head trauma the following day, on August 16, 2014. The official investigation into the shooting pointed to a tragic accident. The young friend who fired the pellet gun, whose name was not released due to his age, was reportedly devastated, having to live with the consequences of that fateful night. No information regarding any arrests or charges being filed in connection with the incident has been made public, leaving the community to mourn a life cut short by a terrible accident.
