In the summer of 2014, a tragic event unfolded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, forever altering the lives of a young family. Maribel Jaqueline Ramirez Fuentes, a 22-year-old female, found her life cut short in a devastating act of violence. The sorrow of this event was compounded by the loss of her two small children, five-year-old Caroline Michelle Fuentes Ramirez and three-year-old Franklin Yosiel Fuentes Ramirez.
The family had been experiencing a period of turmoil.
Maribel had recently separated from her 35-year-old husband, William Rolando Fuentes Godinez. He had moved out of their home and was living with a friend. In the time leading up to the tragedy, he had reportedly made threats against the lives of their children as Maribel would not permit him to return to the family home.
On a fateful day in August, those threats tragically materialized. William Rolando Fuentes Godinez arrived at the home and carried out a horrific act, taking the lives of his estranged wife and their two young children. Following the murders, he then took his own life. The Tulsa Police Department’s investigation confirmed the sequence of events as a murder-suicide.
As the perpetrator was deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Maribel and her children. The case was a somber reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. In the aftermath, the Guatemalan consulate in Houston became involved to assist the families with the arrangements for their loved ones.
