On a summer evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of 16-year-old Deouijanae Latrice Terry was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2015, the young woman was the unintended victim of a drive-by shooting. The incident, which was described by police as gang-related, also resulted in the injury of 18-year-old Jerome Bledsoe, who was believed to be the actual target of the attack.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of four suspects who were allegedly in the van from
which the fatal shots were fired. The individuals accused in connection with the crime were Donavan Armand Wimberly, 18, Joshua Price, 18, Lazerick Reid, 17, and James Edward Knapper, who was 14 at the time of the shooting. All four faced charges of first-degree murder for the death of Deouijanae Terry and assault and battery with a deadly weapon for the injuries sustained by Jerome Bledsoe.
Following the issuance of warrants, the suspects were apprehended. Donavan Armand Wimberly was considered one of Tulsa's 'Most Wanted' before his capture. Due to the severity of the charges, the minor suspects were to be tried as adults under Oklahoma law. Ultimately, James Knapper, the youngest of the accused, was found guilty of murder. A judge sentenced him to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
