In the autumn of 2016, the life of Norman Dewayne Huntley, a 42-year-old man known to his loved ones as 'Pookie,' was tragically cut short. On the evening of Sunday, October 2, Huntley was at his job as a security guard at the Shiny Car Wash in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when a confrontation escalated into fatal violence. He was shot and, despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Huntley, a father and a cherished member of his family, was remembered for his protective nature and his love for horses.
The investigation into Huntley's death quickly focused on identifying a suspect. Tulsa police released surveillance images to the public in the hopes of gathering information that would lead to an arrest. These efforts proved fruitful, and within days, a first-degree murder warrant was issued for a man named Cedric Dwayne Johnson. Authorities believed Johnson was the individual who had argued with Huntley before the shooting.
The search for Johnson continued for several weeks. Law enforcement officials urged caution, considering him to be armed and dangerous. The U.S. Marshals Service joined the manhunt, a clear indication of the seriousness of the crime. Finally, on October 25, 2016, Cedric Dwayne Johnson was apprehended. He was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force, ending the weeks-long search and bringing a sense of relief to a community shaken by the senseless act of violence.
Following his arrest, Cedric Dwayne Johnson faced the judicial process for the murder of Norman Huntley. He was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder and, in addition, was found guilty of possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction. For these crimes, Johnson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder, with an additional 10-year sentence for the firearm charge, ensuring that he would be held accountable for the life he had taken.
