In the quiet town of Henryetta, Oklahoma, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of December 3, 2016, forever altering the lives of one family. Jima Sue Burroughs, a 51-year-old female, was at her residence when she was shot in the face. Despite the grievous injury, she was alert when law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Emergency services rushed Jima to Hillcrest Henryetta Hospital.
She was in critical condition, and despite the efforts of medical staff, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Her life, which began on June 9, 1965, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, tragically ended that day in the town she called home.
The investigation into her death quickly led authorities to a suspect. The day following the shooting, police apprehended 33-year-old Jessie James Scott. His arrest took place at a family member's house in the nearby town of Schulter, following a search of multiple locations. Scott was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced accusations of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction. While an arrest was made, the motive behind the fatal shooting was not immediately made public as investigators continued their work.
