In the late hours of a summer evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of 26-year-old Denerrious Hopkins was brought to a violent and tragic end. On June 26, 2017, Hopkins was in the parking lot of the Turley Food Express on East 56th Street North when a vehicle pulled in. A man is reported to have exited the car and opened fire, striking Hopkins multiple times.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 10:06 PM, where they found Denerrious Hopkins suffering from critical
gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries. The male shooter fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving investigators with an initially sparse description of both the suspect and the vehicle used.
The investigation into the death of Denerrious Hopkins progressed swiftly, leading authorities to identify a suspect in the case. Emari Jordan, a 20-year-old from Midwest City, was named as the individual responsible for the fatal shooting. Witnesses reported to police that it was Jordan who had driven into the parking lot and shot Hopkins.
Following the identification of the suspect, law enforcement located and apprehended Emari Jordan. He was taken into custody and booked into the Tulsa County Jail on July 7, 2017. Jordan was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Denerrious Hopkins. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public as the investigation continued.
