In the small town of Arapaho, Oklahoma, the life of 45-year-old Heather Dawn Park, a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes, came to a violent and tragic end on the evening of April 20, 2019. Heather, a beloved mother and substitute teacher, was fatally shot multiple times while sitting in her car at a Dino Mart convenience store. The horrific event unfolded around 6:30 p.m., with her children just feet away inside another vehicle.
First responders rushed Heather to a hospital in the
nearby city of Clinton, from where she was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Despite the efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries. The man responsible for her death was her ex-husband, Brandon Benevento. Shortly after the shooting, Benevento drove to the Clinton Police Department and surrendered to authorities.
The investigation into Heather's death revealed a troubled history between the former couple, who had finalized their divorce just months before the fatal encounter. Court records indicated a pattern of domestic violence, with multiple protective orders filed against Benevento.
