On October 14, 2010, 32-year-old Damesha Hunter, a mother of four, was on the phone with her husband, Laroye Hunter III, in her Tulsa, Oklahoma, home when a knock at the door interrupted their conversation. After setting the phone down to answer, Damesha never returned to the call. Laroye Hunter III later told police that he came home to discover his wife had been shot to death. Officers arriving at the residence at 7108 E.
Newton Place found Damesha deceased inside; there were no signs of forced entry.
In the immediate aftermath of the discovery of his wife's body, Laroye Hunter III was arrested for violating a protective order that Damesha had previously taken out against him. This was reportedly not the first such order she had sought. Police noted that Damesha had previously pressed assault and battery charges against her husband, but those charges were dropped when she did not appear in court to testify.
The investigation into Damesha's death also uncovered a potential motive in the form of a letter she had received a month before she was killed. The letter was from an unidentified woman who referred to herself as 'KeKe.' In the letter, KeKe claimed to have been in a two-year affair with Laroye and that she was pregnant with his child. The mysterious woman was described as being between 25 and 35 years old and may have frequented the same apartment complex where the Hunters lived.
Despite these circumstances, no charges have ever been filed in connection with Damesha Hunter's murder. Her case has grown cold over the years, and it remains an unsolved homicide. The Tulsa Police Department continues to encourage anyone with information to come forward.
