In Midwest City, a community just east of Oklahoma City, 21-year-old Joshua David Allen's life was remembered for his quiet, loyal, and sweet nature. Born in Savannah, Georgia, on November 7, 1998, Joshua had moved with his family to Midwest City in May of the following year and had spent most of his life there. He was a young man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, from swimming and playing basketball and football to immersing himself in the world of video games.
Those who knew him best, his family and friends, recall a caring and loving individual who always made sure to express his affection before leaving home.
Tragically, on the evening of February 16, 2020, Joshua's life was cut short at the home of a friend and neighbor. The circumstances surrounding his death were heartbreakingly accidental. According to reports from the Midwest City police, a friend was cleaning a loaded gun when it unintentionally discharged, striking and killing Joshua. The incident was a devastating blow to his loved ones, who described themselves as devastated by the loss of someone they considered a son and a 'BEST BUDDY.'
In the wake of his untimely passing, there were no reports of arrests or suspects in the traditional sense, as the event was deemed a tragic accident. The focus for his family remained on honoring his memory. A service to celebrate Joshua's life was held on March 6, 2020, at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City, followed by his burial at Kolb Cemetery in Spencer, Oklahoma. Joshua was survived by his father, Henry David Allen, his sister, Hayley Anara Allen, and his paternal grandmother, Peggy Yvonne Allen, along with numerous other relatives who mourned the loss of a young man known for his loving heart and his aversion to negativity.
