In the early morning hours of October 10, 2022, the sound of gunshots echoed through the Plaza Inn motel, located at 3200 S. I-35 Service Rd. in Oklahoma City. Responding to reports of the shooting at approximately 8:45 a.m., police officers arrived to a grim scene. Inside the motel, they discovered the body of Kentrell Kindred, a 41-year-old Black male.
He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kindred, a father of four, was remembered by his mother as someone she had just seen the previous day. She expressed her confusion to news outlets, stating she had no idea why her son was at the Plaza Inn. The motel had a history of violent crime, with Kindred's death marking the third homicide investigation at that location in 2022 alone. This history prompted concern and highlighted the dangerous reputation of the establishment.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Oklahoma City Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Authorities announced that they were in the very early stages of their inquiry and had not yet identified any suspects.
