In the late morning of August 15, 2013, a burst of violence shattered the peace at the Hillcrest Green Apartments in Oklahoma City. Suave Stacker, a 25-year-old Black male, found himself in the breezeway of the complex, located in the 3200 block of Southwest 74th Street, when he was shot. The attack, which occurred around 11 a.m., left him critically injured.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported him to OU Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life.
For hours, medical staff fought to keep him alive, but the damage was too severe. At approximately 11 p.m. that same night, Suave Stacker succumbed to his wounds, and his death marked the 57th homicide in Oklahoma City for that year. The sudden and violent end to a young life sent ripples of grief and shock through the community, leaving friends and family to mourn their profound loss.
The Oklahoma City Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify 27-year-old Michael Lee Smith as the primary suspect. A few days later, on August 20, 2013, officers conducted a traffic stop near the Northwest Expressway and Wilshire, where they apprehended Smith. Following an interview with investigators, Michael Lee Smith was arrested and subsequently faced charges of first-degree murder and robbery in connection with the death of Suave Stacker.
