In the evening hours of September 7, 2021, a sequence of events unfolded in Del City, Oklahoma, that tragically ended the life of 45-year-old LaJuan Carr, a Black/African American male. What began as a drive turned into a fatal encounter when another vehicle pulled alongside Carr's car in the vicinity of the 3200 block of Westside Drive. Gunshots shattered the evening quiet as an occupant in the other vehicle opened fire.
The assault caused Carr to be struck by the gunfire.
His vehicle, no longer under his control, continued to move until it ultimately crashed into a tree. When first responders arrived at what initially appeared to be a single-vehicle accident, they discovered that Carr was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Del City Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Detectives determined that the incident began after Carr had turned off Tinker Diagonal onto Westside Drive. The vehicle carrying the shooter or shooters fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving a chaotic and tragic scene behind. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of LaJuan Carr, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects.
