In the early evening of November 6, 2021, a fatal encounter unfolded inside a north Tulsa residence that would end the life of 51-year-old Richard Paul Wameling. An argument erupted between two men within the home, located near Pine and Xanthus. The dispute quickly escalated, culminating in a single, tragic gunshot. A witness to the confrontation heard the shot ring out after one of the men pointed a gun at Wameling.
When Tulsa police officers arrived at the home shortly before 7 p.m.,
they discovered Wameling had been shot in the torso. Despite any efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. Investigators began the immediate and intensive process of piecing together the events that led to the shooting. Through their work, a suspect was quickly identified in the homicide.
Within a relatively short period, the Tulsa Police Department publicly named Jeffrey 'Rednek' Dobbs as the man wanted in connection with Wameling's murder. According to an affidavit, the altercation stemmed from a drug debt that Dobbs had come to the residence to pay. During the ensuing argument, Dobbs allegedly shot Wameling in the chest. Authorities noted that another individual was present at the time but was not believed to have been the shooter. After a 10-day manhunt, Dobbs was located and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Tulsa County jail on a charge of murder for the death of Richard Wameling.
