Michael Curtis Hallyburton, 63, a male from Morganton, was found dead inside a burning home on Swink Street in the Antioch section of Burke County on August 31, 2025. Deputies responding to the fire discovered two men deceased; authorities identified Hallyburton at the scene, and later confirmed the second victim as 76-year-old Joseph Kincaid Byrd Jr. After initial review, the Burke County Sheriff's Office announced the case was being investigated as a double homicide.
