In the early morning hours of July 2, 2022, the life of 20-year-old Cha'Riya Johnson, a Black female, was tragically cut short in Oklahoma City. The incident unfolded around 1:35 a.m. in a parking lot at 1148 NE 36th St., where a large crowd had gathered. Amidst the gathering, multiple gunshots rang out, creating a chaotic scene.
First responders arrived to find a volatile situation and two women suffering from gunshot wounds. Ms.
Johnson was grievously injured and emergency medical services transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Another woman, identified as 23-year-old Charcarzae Hishaw, was also wounded during the shooting. She was taken to a local hospital by a private vehicle for treatment of what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Oklahoma City Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the death of Cha'Riya Johnson. As of the initial reports, the investigation was in its early stages, and authorities had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. Detectives with the police department are actively seeking information from the public to help piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting and to identify any potential suspects. The case remains open, and no suspects have been publicly named or taken into custody.
