In the small town of Hollis, Oklahoma, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragic and fatal encounter. Bradley D. Schmidt, a 37-year-old male, was shot and killed in a violent confrontation. The incident, which unfolded over a weekend, left another man seriously injured and concluded with the perpetrator taking his own life.
The series of events began when Christopher Welch, 43, arrived at the residence of James Brown, 53. At the home was Welch's girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend, Bradley Schmidt. An altercation ensued, during which Welch produced a firearm and shot Schmidt multiple times. Brown was also shot during the incident.
Following the shooting, Schmidt was pronounced dead at the scene. Brown was transported to OU Health Center in serious condition. A woman who was also present at the house was physically unharmed. After leaving the residence, Welch returned to his own home, where he died by suicide. The investigation into the deadly shooting was led by the District 3 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, with assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Hollis Police Department. Authorities have characterized the motive as stemming from a domestic situation.
