On a Tuesday afternoon in Pocola, Oklahoma, the life of 26-year-old Barry Lamont Richardson Jr. was tragically cut short. On February 21, 2023, Richardson was at his uncle's home, waiting for his grandmother to pick him up for work, when an argument broke out. The dispute escalated when his cousin, Tavin Chambers, reportedly drove up with a rifle in his lap.
The situation took a fatal turn when Tavin Chambers left and later returned with his father, Rashawd Chambers, and another man,
Tyriq Eastling. As Richardson turned to go back inside the residence near the corner of Butler and Clark avenues, he was shot from behind. First responders arrived at the scene to find Richardson with apparent gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, an investigation was launched by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Tavin Chambers and Rashawd Chambers were apprehended and subsequently charged with murder in connection with Richardson's death. The third suspect, Tyriq Eastling, who was 22 years old at the time of the incident, fled the state.
After a manhunt that lasted for over a year, and with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Service, Tyriq Eastling was located and arrested in Michigan City, Indiana, on July 24, 2024. He is being held without bond on a murder charge. For over a year, a memorial for Barry Richardson stood at the corner where he lost his life, a somber reminder of the events that transpired while the search for his alleged killer continued.
