Evan Brooks Jackson was a 25-year-old White man who was dedicated to his family. Described by loved ones as hardworking and kind-hearted, he lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, with his fiancée, Hannah Lyndsay, and their three-month-old son, Axel Dean Jackson. Evan, who had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, was working at a convenience store to provide a better life for his new family.
In the early hours of Sunday, March 24, 2024, that life was cut short by what his family called a senseless
act of workplace violence. Around 2:20 a.m., Jackson and a co-worker were on duty at the Stripes convenience store near the intersection of Sheridan Road and E Avenue. According to court documents, the two employees encountered an individual who had been banned from the store. The confrontation moved into an adjacent parking lot.
A man later identified as Dominique Lyon then arrived in a truck. During an encounter in the parking lot, Lyon allegedly opened fire on both Jackson and his co-worker after Jackson let go of him. Police were called to the scene, where they found both victims with gunshot wounds. Evan Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. His co-worker was transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Following an investigation by the Lawton Police Department, Dominique Lyon was identified as the suspect and arrested. He was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Evan Jackson. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
Evan is remembered by his infant son, fiancée, mother, grandparents, and many other family members and friends. As of March 2024, the case against Dominique Lyon was proceeding through the court system.
