In the quiet summer of 1904, the life of St. Croix County Sheriff Harry Harris, a 44-year-old White male, was tragically cut short in a sudden act of violence. On June 18, while traveling by train through Eau Claire County, Sheriff Harris fatefully recognized a man suspected in a recent robbery. The sheriff was en route to Elroy to take custody of another suspect involved in the same crime when he encountered the accomplice on the train.
