In the fall of 2020, the life of 40-year-old Black / African American man LaVar L. Wallace was tragically cut short in a violent series of events that unfolded in a home in Omro, Wisconsin. On October 21, 2020, Wallace was in the wrong place at the wrong time, becoming a witness to a murder before becoming a victim himself.
That day, Andrew Clark shot and killed his wife, Melissa Clark, inside their Omro residence.
Wallace, who was present in the home at the time, witnessed the horrific act. In a desperate attempt to eliminate the witness to his crime, Andrew Clark then turned the gun on Wallace, shooting and killing him as well.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, Clark attempted to cover up his crimes. Another individual present in the house, Michael Draine, was initially implicated and told police he helped Clark try to conceal the murders by dousing Melissa Clark's body with gasoline. However, after further investigation, prosecutors determined that Draine should not be prosecuted, and the charges against him were dropped.
Ultimately, the investigation led to the arrest and conviction of Andrew Clark. A jury found him guilty of two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for the deaths of his wife, Melissa Clark, and LaVar Wallace. Despite Clark's claims during his sentencing that the shooting of his wife was accidental and that Draine was responsible for Wallace's death, the jury rejected his arguments. The judge presiding over the case described the killings as "cruel and cold-hearted murders." For his crimes, Andrew Clark was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison with no possibility of parole, ensuring he would be held accountable for the senseless deaths of two individuals.
