In the winter of 2014, a young Black/African American woman's life was tragically cut short in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Alonna Glovonni Thomas, a 23-year-old female, was killed on December 9, 2014, following a violent dispute. The incident that led to her death unfolded at the intersection of 29th and Locust streets.
The conflict reportedly stemmed from a dispute with another woman, Tequila Cole, who was 21 at the time, over a shared romantic partner who was also the father of Alonna's
young child. The argument escalated dramatically, culminating in a fatal shooting. Witnesses reported that Cole fired a gun multiple times at Alonna until the weapon was empty. Alonna sustained a gunshot wound to her back shoulder and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Following the shooting, Tequila Cole fled and became a fugitive. Her name was added to the FBI's most wanted list, and she remained at large for a considerable time. On May 30, 2016, Cole eventually turned herself in to the Milwaukee County Jail.
Initially, Cole faced a charge of first-degree intentional homicide with the use of a dangerous weapon. However, in September 2016, she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree reckless homicide. On November 4, 2016, a Milwaukee County judge sentenced Tequila Cole to 30 years in prison, with an additional ten years of extended supervision. The tragic event left Alonna's toddler daughter to be raised by her grandparents.
