On the morning of August 12, 2022, 20-year-old Elexis Gridiron, a Black/African American female, was shot and killed in her Milwaukee, Wisconsin, apartment near 76th Street and Brown Deer Road. A certified nursing assistant with aspirations of becoming an ultrasound technician, she was getting ready for work when the fatal incident occurred. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Family members believe her death was an act of domestic violence, identifying her ex-boyfriend as
the person responsible. According to her family, the ex-boyfriend had been stalking and harassing her in the days leading up to the shooting. They allege that on the morning of her death, he waited for a friend to leave her apartment before gaining entry into the building. Gridiron was on a FaceTime call with a friend who reportedly heard the altercation that led to the gunfire.
Despite the family's public statements and their belief that they know who killed her, the Milwaukee Police Department has not officially named a suspect in the case. Investigators have stated they believe the shooting stemmed from an argument. As of late August 2022, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide, and the person the family suspects of her murder remained at large. The investigation into Elexis Gridiron's death is ongoing, and authorities have asked for anyone with information to come forward.
